We are open!

We’re thrilled to announce the opening of the Houston SPCA Pet Wellness Clinic, dedicated to serving the beloved pets of our community. Our clinic is committed to delivering top-notch yet affordable veterinary care for your furry companions, encompassing essential vaccinations and preventatives.

As of now, our services encompass vaccinations, preventatives, and online pharmacy services (coming soon). However, we do not currently offer veterinary care for injured or unwell pets, nor do we provide spaying or neutering services. Stay connected with us through social media for the latest updates on our Pet Wellness Clinic as we work diligently to expand our offerings in the near future.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day with your pet and partner

Holidays are a wonderful time to snuggle up and spend time with your pet. However, they can also prove to be a dangerous time, resulting in pet emergency room visits if you’re not careful. Here’s how to make sure your pet stays safe this Valentine’s Day.

Romantic Dates Your Pet Can Enjoy

Many couples with pets bond over quality time spent with each other and their furry friend. Here are some activities you can do if you’d like to include your pet in your Valentine’s Day date and they don’t mind being a third wheel!

  1. Backyard picnic. Pack some pet-safe snacks like apples, cheese, crackers, and a veggie tray or charcuterie board and spread out on the lawn.
  2. Movie night and blanket fort. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day snuggled up with your favorite person and your pets?
  3. Nature hike. Grab the leash and some sneakers and hit the trails for a date that will keep all of you in tip-top shape!

Watch Out

Like always, there are some dangers to be aware of if you’re celebrating with your pet.

  1. Keep the candies and desserts, especially chocolates, far out of your pets’ reach.
  2. If you’re indulging in some wine or another alcoholic beverage, be sure your pet cannot access your glass or carafe and watch out for spills they can lap up.
  3. Be careful with your pets around open flame. If you’re planning on lighting lots of candles, confine your pet to another room.
  4. Watch out for unhealthy foods for pets, like grapes or fatty or seasoned meats.
  5. Supervise pets around any gifts or trinkets you get for your significant other. Stuffed toys and other small gifts can pose a choking hazard or cause an intestinal blockage.

Additionally, you can always crate your pet or have a pet sitter check on them while you go out and celebrate with your partner. They’ll be safe at home and out of trouble when you get back!
